When SolarWinds crashes, you need to recover it as soon as possible. As the most trusted SolarWinds Premier Partner, Tobias International helps customers quickly remediate and restore SolarWinds to ensure your monitoring is operational.
The 4Cs: Catastrophic, Critical, Chronic, and Complex Issues
Layer 3 (4Cs) is a special category of issue experienced on a SolarWinds system. These issues most often require highly experienced SolarWinds engineers who understand the environment in which SolarWinds is deployed to successfully troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve the issue.
We reduce SolarWinds outage time via our deep SolarWinds experience as well as access to our knowledge management repositories and other subject matter experts. Tobias International has developed extensive knowledge repositories and functions collectively to minimize SolarWinds service disruption.
The 4 Cs are defined by the following outage types:
- Catastrophic
- Critical
- Chronic
- Complex
Catastrophic SolarWinds Issues
Catastrophic Issues are issues in which the SolarWinds system fails to provide even the most basic of services. These are also known as a “system down” state or an “outage”. A Catastrophic outage of the SolarWinds system will often result in the loss of all visibility into an IT infrastructure. It will also limit an organization’s situational awareness into its IT operations. These types of issues require maximum effort to reinstate the monitoring services.
Critical Issues
Critical Issues are issues in which there has been a significant degradation in service. This may manifest itself in the form of extremely delayed responses from user input, or in the complete dysfunction of a specific service, tool or feature. An example of such an outage would be the inability to render any network maps in the SolarWinds display.
These types of issues usually require immediate attention to identify root cause; however, once a resolution is identified, the remediation may be delayed until the next change window or after peak business hours to ensure that repairs are made during a time that minimizes business impact.
Chronic Issues
A chronic issue is a fault or problem with SolarWinds that is difficult to isolate and resolve. These types of problems are often intermittent but persistent, and usually don’t rise to the level of a critical or catastrophic problem. In most organizations chronic issues don’t get the required attention needed to resolve these problems due to higher priority issues and a lack of resources.
Tobias International maintains a knowledge base specifically designed to combat and resolve chronic issues.
Complex Issues
Complex issues are extremely difficult issues to isolate and even more difficult for which to find the root cause. These types of problems often have a multivariate cause or relationship. Often the causation is conditional on an environmental state limited in distribution, making historical analysis and references impossible or problematic. The problematic ability to reference similar issues will often result in erroneous conclusions about the root cause. This then extends the time it takes to properly isolate the root cause or causes, extending the mean time to repair the issue.
